Laser Vein Treatment
What Are Thread & Spider Veins?
Thread veins, also known as spider veins, are small blood vessels that sit close to the surface of the skin. They appear as thin, web-like lines and can be blue, purple, or red in colour. While they are not painful or harmful, they can affect your confidence and make you feel self-conscious about your appearance.
Thread veins can appear on the legs, face, and other areas of the body. Facial thread veins are also very common and can be effectively treated with our laser technology.
How Does Laser Vein Treatment Work?
At Medipro Clinics, we use the Cutera Nd-YAG laser to treat thread and spider veins. The laser precisely targets the blood vessels beneath the skin. The heat from the laser coagulates the blood within the vessel, causing the vessel walls to collapse and seal shut. Over the following weeks, the treated veins gradually disappear as the body naturally absorbs them.
This treatment is cosmetic in nature. If you are experiencing symptoms such as pain, aching, or swelling in your veins, you may need to see a vascular surgeon for further assessment. Laser vein treatment is best suited for very small spider veins rather than larger varicose veins.
How It Works
Patch Test
A patch test is required by UK law before your first treatment. You will need to wait 24 to 48 hours after the patch test before your full treatment can begin.
Laser Treatment
The Cutera Nd-YAG laser is directed at the targeted veins. Triple sapphire cooling technology ensures your comfort throughout the procedure.
Results
Treated veins gradually disappear over the following weeks as the body absorbs them. Three to four sessions spaced six to eight weeks apart deliver optimal results.
What Does Treatment Feel Like?
The sensation during laser vein treatment is often described as feeling like a hot elastic band being flicked against the skin. While this may sound uncomfortable, our Cutera laser features triple sapphire cooling technology that significantly reduces discomfort and keeps the skin cool during treatment.
Will Treated Veins Return?
Once treated, the targeted veins will not return. However, it is possible for new thread or spider veins to form over time due to factors such as ageing, hormonal changes, or lifestyle. Maintenance treatments can be arranged if new veins appear in the future.
